The 73rd Primetime Emmys will be held on September 19th, 2021 at the Microsoft Theatre in California. It will honor and celebrate the best television shows airing from June 1, 2020, till May 31, 2021. The nominations for this year were virtually announced to the world on July 13th. This year streaming services are reigning the nominations against traditional cable networks. Netflix has bagged the highest number of nominations with a total of 27 nominations.
For television shows in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, the nominees are- Black-ish (ABC), Cobra Kai (Netflix), Emily in Paris (Netflix), The Flight Attendant (HBO MAX), Hacks (HBO MAX), The Kominsky Method (Netflix), PEN15 (Hulu), and lastly, Ted Lasso (Apple TV+). I’m personally rooting for Ted Lasso in this category.
For programs in the Outstanding Drama Series category, the nominees are- The Boys (Prime Video), Bridgerton (Netflix), The Crown (Netflix), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), Lovecraft Country (HBO), The Mandalorian (Disney+), Pose (FX), This Is Us (NBC), Although I haven’t had the opportunity to watch some of these shows. But from what I have seen my personal favorite in this category is The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale takes a close second place only because the recent seasons seemed a little recycled and not up to the mark.
For the Outstanding Anthology series, the nominees for this year are- I May Destroy You (HBO), Mare of Easttown (HBO), The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix), The Underground Railroad (Prime Video), WandaVision (Disney+). Personally, I am rooting for The Queen’s Gambit and WandaVision in this category. The nominees for Outstanding Variety Talk Series are Conan (TBS), The Daily Show with Trevor Noah (Comedy Central), Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO), and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS). Last year, ‘Last Week with John Oliver’ took the Emmy home, let’s see who bags it this year.
The nominees for this year’s Outstanding Competition Program are- The Amazing Race (CBS), Nailed It! (Netflix), RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1), Top Chef (Bravo), and The Voice (NBC). As an active competition show fan, I am really hoping for RuPaul’s Drag Race to win.

Macy as Frank Gallagher on Shameless, Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso on Ted Lasso, and Kenan Thompson as Kenan Williams on Kenan.
