The Apple event for 2024 kicked off with the introduction of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, both designed to take full advantage of Apple Intelligence, the company’s innovative AI system. Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced the new phones, noting how they “raise the bar for what an iPhone can do,” highlighting that these devices are not just incremental upgrades but leaps into new technological territory.

Both models feature the A18 chip, which comes with 8GB of RAM, making it faster and more efficient for complex tasks like AI processing, gaming, and video editing. Apple claims that this chip is fast enough to challenge the performance of high-end desktop computers, a significant claim in the smartphone market.

One of the most notable changes in the iPhone 16 lineup is the introduction of the new “capture button,” which allows users to open and control the camera with a single press. This button supports zooming, focusing, and taking photos, improving accessibility for quick captures.

Additionally, Apple redesigned the camera layout, returning to the vertical arrangement reminiscent of older Pro models. The 48-megapixel primary camera with 2x telephoto and a 12MP ultrawide lens enhances light balancing, improves macro photography, and supports spatial photos and videos for a more immersive experience.

The iPhone 16 starts at $799 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 16 Plus begins at $899. Both models will be available for preorder on Friday and will officially launch on September 20.

Apple then revealed its premium iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models at the Apple event for 2024, which stand out with their larger displays, improved camera systems, and faster performance. The Pro model features a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max measures 6.9 inches, marking a significant increase over their predecessors. The Pro Max also boasts the “best iPhone battery life ever,” though Apple didn’t delve into specific numbers during the event.

Both Pro models are powered by the new A18 Pro chip, built on a second-generation 3-nanometer process, designed for more efficient AI workloads and improved overall performance. This chip brings a 17% increase in system memory bandwidth, making it ideal for running Apple’s most advanced AI features.

On the camera front, the Pro and Pro Max models come equipped with a new fusion camera system, capable of capturing 4K video at 120 frames per second.

The ultrawide lens and 5x telephoto zoom further enhance photo-taking capabilities, with the Pro model gaining the ability to switch between different lenses directly from the viewfinder. For professionals, Apple added sophisticated audio editing tools to the mix, allowing users to separate background noise from voices using AI, making the Pro models ideal for content creators.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 for the 128GB option, while the Pro Max begins at $1,199 for the 256GB model. Color options include black, silver, gray, and rose gold, offering both style and sophistication.

The surprise highlight of the Apple event for 2024 was the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple’s thinnest and most powerful wearable to date. The Series 10, which boasts a 9.7mm thickness and larger display, builds on Apple’s health-first approach, incorporating new features aimed at improving users’ well-being. One of the standout features is its potential to detect sleep apnea, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. The watch uses its built-in accelerometer to monitor breathing disturbances during sleep and analyze data over time to detect signs of the condition.

In terms of aesthetics, the Series 10 will be available in black, silver, and rose gold, while Apple also introduced a jet-black glossy finish for the first time. The new model’s case is up to 10% lighter than previous iterations, thanks to advanced materials and improved design.

On the software side, the watch includes Apple Intelligence, which powers more advanced health tracking, AI-driven features, and new workout modes designed for swimmers, rowers, and adventure enthusiasts.

The watch can be pre-ordered starting Monday, with availability in stores by September 20. The GPS model starts at $399, while the GPS + cellular version is priced at $499.

Apple also unveiled its new AirPods 4 at its event for 2024, with a complete redesign and enhanced audio features. With both an entry-level model and a noise-canceling option, the AirPods 4 bring personalized spatial audio to the table. Apple has re-engineered the shape and acoustic architecture for more comfortable wear and better sound quality, ensuring a rich bass and crystal-clear highs.

Perhaps the most groundbreaking feature in the AirPods Pro is the addition of a hearing test, which Apple says can transform the AirPods into over-the-counter hearing aids. The test takes five minutes, and based on the results, users can apply a personalized hearing profile across all their Apple devices, enhancing the audio experience for phone calls, music, and media. This feature is currently awaiting FDA approval.

Pricing for the AirPods 4 starts at $129 for the non-noise-canceling version, while the noise-canceling model will retail for $179. Both are available for pre-order now, with an official release on September 20.
