Most Anticipated Shows and Movies from Netflix’s TUDUM 2022 Event

Netflix TUDUM 2022

Back in 2021, Netflix launched a companion website called Tudum. Tudum is a news hub where fans can receive additional information and exclusive sneak peeks about their favorite tv shows and movies. Additionally, the website also features news regarding upcoming new tv shows/movies and exclusive interviews where stars share their mid-production experience. The star-packed annual global event Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event – its full title – was held on September 24.

The TUDUM live stream delivered announcements regarding new shows/movies and upcoming seasons of some fan-favorite shows. In particular, the virtual program showcased first looks of more than 120 shows, games, movies and according to Netflix – “never-before-seen footage, trailers, and first looks, as well as interviews with Netflix’s biggest stars and creators”.

If you think you live in dullsville, fear not anymore, because Netflix is about to change that. The global event hosted by the streaming giant hatched a calendar for viewers who constantly look for top-notch good content. Out of a weighty lineup, these Netflix Originals stick out above the rest:

TV Shows

The Watcher

Moving into a new house is supposed to be a happy moment. When an unknown individual begins sending creepy letters, claiming to have watched the house for the past two decades, things take an ominous turn. That is exactly what happens in The Watcher. From the creators Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) and Ian Brennan, this limited series is scheduled to premiere on October 13, 2022. The Tudum event released a chilling trailer starring Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Mia Farrow, and Jennifer Coolidge, among others.

The Crown, Season 5

Netflix confirmed the arrival of season 5 during Tudum stream. The new season is stated to release on Nov 9, 2022. This season, we will see a handful of significant occurrences from the 1990s. John Major and Tony Blair are two such examples. Queen Elizabeth will have to meet with a Labour leader for the first time in over two decades now that it is time for a new Prime Minister. Needless to say, Diana, Princess of Wales, is the obvious focal point of the story with her split from Prince Charles and then her untimely death in 1997. Imelda Staunton will be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Olivia Colman, who played the British monarch in Seasons 3 and 4. The Season 5 cast includes Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

1899

Multinational immigrants, traveling from the old continent to the new, encounter a nightmarish riddle aboard a second ship adrift on the open sea.

1899 is a new Netflix original from the makers of the Dark.

So if you enjoyed Dark, you might want to consider adding 1899 to your watch queue. Those who enjoyed the grossly underrated 2019 series The Terror will want to keep an eye out for this one. The release date of Netflix’s 1899 season is November 17. Better yet, the makers of 1899 have already plotted out three seasons, so you can rest assured that this is a story that will stay with you for quite some time. The plot and teaser both seem compelling and boiled with mystery.

Emily In Paris, Season 3

At the Tudum event, fans were delighted to watch the reunion of the whole cast. To add a cherry on top, they showcased a quick teaser where Emily experiments with bangs. We know from last season that Emily will be staying in the City of Love for a long time and navigating her Parisian life. Season 3 of Emily in Paris will premiere on December 21, and we cannot wait to see what happens to Lily Collins’ fashionable character.

The Witcher: Blood and Origin

The Witcher’s hotly awaited prequel finally has a date of arrival and will serve as the perfect Christmas Gift to fans. This mini-series is expected to release on December 25. It will depict the events 1200 years before Henry Cavil’s Geralt of Rivia, focusing on the story of “seven outcasts who unite against an unstoppable power that took everything from them”.

Already an impressive cast, Blood Origin adds Michelle Yeoh of Everything Everywhere All at Once to the roster as the sword-self Scian and Sonia Brown of Giri/Haji as the warrior/musician Éile. The roles of Bran and Fjall are played by Nathaniel Curtis (It’s a Sin) and Laurence O’Fuarain (Game of Thrones).

You, Season 4

Despite the show’s tendency to romanticize horrific crimes, You is one of the most successful projects on Netflix. The live broadcast of Tudum unveiled a teaser trailer for season 4. Penn Badgley returns with a new persona and a new name, Professor Jonathan Moore.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I have gone through a bit of refinement”, he says.

This time he crossed the Atlantic Ocean and settled in England. Furthermore, Netflix announced that the new season will release in two parts. Part 1 premieres February 10, 2022, and Part 2 premieres March 10, 2022.

The Witcher, Season 3

The exact date of release is unannounced for the new season of ‘The Witcher’. In the Tudum broadcast, one of the main cast, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) shares her experience of shooting Season 3. She promises a good ride to the viewers for season 3. We also see Freya Allan (Ciri) busy trying to perfect her action stunts amid the production. One of the lucrative projects of Netflix, season 3 of this medieval-inspired show is slated to release in summer 2023.

Vikings, Valhalla, Season 2

Netflix released the first clip from Vikings: Valhalla Season 2. Valhalla is a spin-off of History Channel’s Vikings series, which ran for six seasons. Season 2 of Valhalla shares a new clip that brings the Vikings to the verge of battle in an open field before cutting to black. The exact date is unannounced. However, Netflix assured us that the 2nd season will be back on the screens in 2023.

Movies

Enola Holmes 2

Of course, the first trailer for Enola Holmes 2 got released during Netflix’s Tudum event.

Enola’s next mystery centers on a missing girl and has ties to a case that has been vexing Sherlock, suggesting that the two Holmes siblings might work together to solve the mystery.

The trailer confirms Henry Cavill will be reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes. However, it is unlikely that Sam Claflin will be back as Mycroft Holmes given he was not in the trailer. New casts will appear as well as some old casts including Helena Bonham Carter, Adeel Akhtar, and Susan Wokoma. Enola Holmes 2 will be released worldwide on November 4.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

The Knives Out follow-up movie relies on the plot’s secrets, lies, misunderstandings, and mistaken identities, as opposed to the original’s oddball family members-turned-murder suspects. Famed southern detective Benoit Blanc is sent to a billionaire’s private island in Greece to investigate a new cast of suspects, in Rian Johnson’s highly anticipated whodunnit. In addition to Craig, this megahit murder mystery is star-studded by a series of actors including Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, and Leslie Odom Jr. The film will debut on Netflix on December 23 this year.

Your Place or Mine

Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher both have their fair share of rom-coms. But this time we will see them together in the upcoming ‘Your Place or Mine’. It is releasing on February 10, 2023, coinciding neatly with the Valentine’s Day celebrations. At Netflix’s Tudum Day, Witherspoon and Kutcher filmed a promo where they spoke over the phone but did not necessarily divulge any information about the film. According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the movie will focus on two long-distance best friends who influence each other’s lives when one (Witherspoon) decides to pursue a lifelong dream and the other (Kutcher) offers to watch over her teenage son.

The Tudum event brought a slew of contents that are hard to keep up with. It’s a lot to process, even before diving into the service’s rapidly expanding library of previous materials. But this list of curated must-watches shall keep you eager for a treat.
