WWE held another international PLE, this time in Scotland for the first time in company history with Clash at the Castle. Five championship matches took place inside OVO Hydro. The crowd was good. Every match served its purpose with some memorable moments and storyline progression. Here is a recap of all the action from Glasgow:

WWE Championship

I knew Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles was going to be amazing, but it was better than expected. This match and rivalry were exactly what Cody needed in his title reign. In a high-intensity match, Cody and Styles engaged in a brutal confrontation. Cody started strong with a Disaster Kick but lost control when Styles sent him off the ring apron. Styles countered Cody’s moves, including using the ropes to escape a hold and executing a BrainBuster. Cody retaliated with a Pele Kick into a DDT, but Styles refused to quit.

Styles then used a variety of weapons, including a steel chair, knee drop, kendo stick, whip, and STF, to assault Cody. Despite this, Cody regained consciousness. Styles taunted Cody’s mother, who slapped him twice. Cody employed a steel chain, a Cody Cutter, and three CrossRhodes to strike Styles. In the climax, Cody threatened to throw steel steps at Styles and shouted “I Quit,” ending the match. But Cody hit Styles with the steel steps anyway, showing us a different side of his character.

After the match, The Bloodline attacked Cody, but Kevin Owens and Randy Orton fended them off. I suppose we are getting Cody vs Solo or the 6-man tag match at Money in the Bank.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Baszler, Bianca, and Dawn began the match, with Bianca initially in control. Cargill, Fyre, and Stark entered next. Stark and Fyre double-teamed Cargill, but she regained control with a fallaway slam on both. The challengers temporarily united against the champions, gaining an advantage. Stark and Baszler dominated Dawn until she tagged in Fyre, who overtook them. Fyre hit a missile dropkick, but Bianca broke the pin attempt. A series of top rope moves followed, with Bianca executing a superplex. Cargill, tagged in, unleashed a flurry of offense but was caught in a cobra clutch by Baszler, which Bianca disrupted. Bianca and Cargill double-teamed Baszler, but as Cargill attempted a pin, Dawn performed a German suplex on Cargill and pinned Baszler. Dawn and Fyre became the new Women’s Tag Team Champions in their home country. Now the road is open for a Cargill vs Bianca match.

Intercontinental Championship

Chad Gable and Sami Zayn began their match with a cautious feeling-out process. The action intensified after an exchange of slaps, with Gable gaining a slight advantage, focusing on Zayn’s shoulder. Gable hit a Fisherman’s Suplex, but Zayn kicked out at two. Zayn then countered with backhand strikes and a springboard moonsault to the outside. Back in the ring, Gable countered Zayn’s top rope attack with a dropkick. Zayn responded with a Michinoku Driver, but Gable kicked out. Gable then hit a flying headbutt and a series of German suplexes, but Zayn countered with suplexes of his own and a crossface. Gable escaped and applied an ankle lock, which Zayn reversed into a pin attempt.

The match was great, but the storytelling was even greater. Gable grabbed the Intercontinental title and handed it to Maxine to strike Zayn with the title, but she held back. As Gable chastised Maxine, Zayn charged and attempted a Huluva kick but stopped as he was about to hit Maxine. Gable hit Chaos Theory, 1-2 kick out. Gable went back to berate Maxine but was interrupted by Otis. Zayn attempted a splash, and Otis pushed Gable out of the way. Gable then hit a moonsault on both Zayn and Otis, after some outside action where Maxine was tripped up by Gable. The conflict with Otis continued and he again hesitated to hit Sami. Alpha Academy left the ringside and a distracted Gable was hit by a Huluva Kick from Zayn. Sami retained the title and signaled that it was the last opportunity for Gable to win the title.

WWE Women’s Championship

Bayley attempted to gain offense, but Niven’s power halted her momentum. Chelsea Green intervened, tripping Bayley, but was ejected after confronting the referee. Niven dominated with a running cannonball and Swanton, but Bayley kicked out. Bayley created space using Niven’s momentum, hit two leg drops and a rolling senton, followed by a top rope elbow, but Niven kicked out. Niven countered with a choke slam and senton, but Bayley kicked out. After a Bayley to Belly, Green reappeared, causing a distraction. Niven hit a Piper Driver, but Bayley kicked out. Bayley finally secured victory with a Crucifix Driver, retaining her title.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Finally, the match we all had been waiting for. Drew McIntyre started strong with an over-the-top-rope dive. Damian Priest gained control by hacking McIntyre into the post and attempted a splash, but McIntyre countered with strikes and a spinebuster. Priest regained momentum with a toss-over slam. The fast-paced action continued, culminating in a Michinoku Driver from McIntyre. Priest’s top rope attack was thwarted, leading to a suplex by McIntyre. Priest hit South of Heaven, but McIntyre kicked out. McIntyre countered with a Future Shock DDT, which Priest also kicked out of. On the top rope, McIntyre tried for White Noise, but Priest countered with a Razor’s Edge for another near-fall.

In the ring, they exchanged punches. Priest attempted three roundhouse kicks, missing the third, allowing McIntyre to hit a neckbreaker and perform a kip-up. Outside the ring, McIntyre hit a Claymore, sending Priest through the barricade. Back in the ring, Priest hit another South of Heaven, but McIntyre kicked out. Priest positioned McIntyre on the top rope and hit a hurricanrana, but McIntyre immediately responded with a Claymore, leading to another near-fall.

During a back-and-forth, Priest accidentally sent the referee out of the ring. McIntyre hit another Claymore, but there was no referee to count. A second referee arrived and counted, but then stopped as it was revealed to be CM Punk. McIntyre confronted Punk, who low-blowed him, allowing Priest to hit South of Heaven for the win. CM Punk might be the only wrestler who didn’t get booed after costing the hometown hero the biggest championship opportunity.

Overall, it was another good B-level PLE for WWE. RAW is going to be a must-watch now. The rivalry between CM Punk and Drew is going to reach another level. Wyatt 6 or the Uncle Howdy Squad is confirmed now to be on the next episode. Let’s see how the road to Money in the Bank progresses.
