It is highly likely that Ayushmann Khurranna will continue to impress with his off-beat projects. 2020 began with Deepika Padukone starrer super hit movie Chhapaak. Kangana Ranaut’s Panga was released on 24th January and has received impressive reviews. Here is a list of Bollywood movies likely to keep you entertained for the rest of the year.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan

This Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is a humorous yet noteworthy take on homosexuality. The story is about two men Kartik (Ayushman) and Aman (Jitendra Kumar) who are in love with each other and the ruckus their families create after getting to know about their relationship. The trailer dropped on 20th January looks promising. Ayushmann Khurrana continues to experiment with not so mainstream cinema content. This will be anything but a stereotypical movie. The ‘Badhaai Ho’ couple Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao are also part of the cast. This will be the second Bollywood movie on homosexuality in recent times after ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’. It is set to be released on 21st February.

This movie is the biopic of India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev and is most likely to portray the incidents surrounding the 1983 World Cup. The cast featuring the entire Indian Cricket Team of 1983 has been announced. Ranveer Singh will playing the protagonist. His ‘Kapil Dev’ look had been the talk of the town ever since the movie posters have been revealed. Directed by Kabir Khan, this movie also features Deepika Padukone. ‘83’ adds to the list of biopics that have been trending so much in Bollywood since the past few years. Viewers will have very high expectations from this movie due to incident and the lives of people it will portray and partially because of its first class cast.

Shakuntala Devi

Nicknamed ‘human computer’, Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mathematician. She also conducted the first study on homosexuality in India for her book ‘The World of Homosexuals’. Acclaimed actress Vidya Balan will be portraying her for this movie. This could be Vidya’s chance to shine on the big screen once again.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargill Girl

The movie is based on the life of Indian air force pilot Gunjan Saxena. The lead role is being played by Janhvi Kapoor who is only a couple of films old in to the industry.

Laal Singh Chaddha

Amir Khan is in the point of his career where he is content with one film release a year and makes sure to put up a top notch annual performance. So it is only natural that expectations from his only release this year ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ will be quite high. Amir Khan has gotten himself a full Punjabi get up for this comedy. It is a remake of Oscar winning movie ‘Forrest Gump’. “I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a life affirming story. It is a feel good film. It is a film for the whole family.”- said Amir Khan in an interview. Advait Chandan who had directed another of Amir Khan’s project ‘Secret Superstar’ will be directing this one as well.

Gulabo Sitabo

Amitabh Bachchan, the living legend and Ayushmann Khurrana, the top performer of recent times have join hands for this piece. The family comedy will be directed by Shoojit Sircar. Amitabh Bachchan’s get up may remind fans of his role in ‘Piku’.

Thappad

Tapsee Panu’s new movie’s trailer was launched on Friday and it went viral within a couple of hours. ‘Thappad’ is the story of a married woman whose life changes after an incident. The incident being a slap by her husband. As a sign of protest, she files for divorce. Although people on Twitter have hailed the movie as an answer to ‘Kabir Singh’, Tapsee Panu would rather not have the comparison being made.

Jhund

As mentioned before, the trend of sports biopics have followed Bollywood in 2020 too. This movie will be based on Vijay Barse, the professor who assembled a football team comprised of street children. Amitabh Bachchan will be playing the role of Mr. Barse. It is set to be released on May, 2020.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Kartik Aaryan has been signed as the lead actor in the sequel of Priyadarshan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Kartik will also be starring in sequel of Love Ajkal this year. His last movie was a remake of ‘Pati Patni or Woh’. He seems to be choosing to work with tested scripts and in sequels of movies with an existing fan base. This horror-comedy begins as a NRI couple starts living in their ancestral home where strange activities soon begin leading them to call up a psychiatrist.
